Pathos Legacy

Samuel and his wife Jennifer launched Pathos Reading as an organization to promote the love of learning in Haitian children. The name Pathos is taken from the rhetorical devices used and explained by Aristotle; Pathos, Ethos and Logos. Aristotle described Pathos as the mode of persuasion that focuses on the emotional response of the audience. Pathos Legacy will use Pathos (literally and figuratively) to create a connection between a child and a book. Our goal is to create a passion for learning by placing a book in the hands of every child in Haiti.

Samuel Prophete is a native Haitian. He is also a Biomedical Engineer, a scientist and a father. Growing up in Haiti, he didn’t have any children’s books of his own. As he observed the library of his own children, he realized they were getting a head start in life and education simply by having access to so many books. He decided to do something to increase the access to books for Haitian children living in Haiti and around the world.

Jennifer Prophete is passionate about two things: children and international mission work. These two loves have merged together in Pathos Legacy. With a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and English as a Foreign Language she knows the importance of reading for young children and how to make it exciting.
